Undead Army - The Coven Throne and Undead Cavalry

With the left over bits from my Mortis Engine, I realized with a little ingenuity and some work, I could make a Coven Throne to add to my undead army.  With that in mind, I got to work, using a Magewrath Throne by Citadel Miniatures as a base for the Coven Throne. I assembled the Magewrath throne and mounted it on a movement tray.  For the spirit hosts, I bought a handful of cheap printer resin Skeletons from the Bones Line of Miniatures from Reaper Miniatures.  I based the throne in black, dry brushing it with lighter shades of grey.   For the skeletons, I primed them with flat white spray paint, painted with Nihiliak Oxide, and then washed with Guilliaman Blue Glaze.  I then painted the metals.   I also painted up the three vampires that came with the Coven Throne a brilliant red to make them pop.  I finalized the process by washing the miniatures in a 3:1 mix of Minwax Polyshades Mission Oak and Paint Thinner.  This method of washing gives the miniatures a lot of dept

Undead Army: Cavalry

I decided to add 10 Hexwraiths and 10 Black Knights to my Warhammer Fantasy Battle Vampire Counts army.  These miniatures can also be used in Age of Sigmar as well as the 9th Age (If I decide to ever go back to it...  Chances are unlikely, but still I like to be prepared) The nice part about the Hexwraith/Black Knight kits from Citadel, is that you can technically make two different units out of 1 Box set.  If you decide to build Hexwraiths, the left over bits can be used to create Black Knights. The only thing is that you have to create/convert mounts for them to use, which I did.  As you can see in the photos, I converted some left hover horse and cavalry mounts for my Black Knights.  In the end I had 20 Cavalry Models in total for my army. As you can see, I decided to paint up my Hexwraiths in Ethereal Green and my Black Knights in Ethereal Blue.  I primed both miniatures in flat white spray paint, and then painted the miniatures with glazes.   For the Hexw

A Long, 6 Month Road: House von Koss

After a long 6 months, my 2000 point Vampire Counts army is finally completed.  I proudly present to you:  House von Koss. House von Koss This army consists of the following: Marduk von Koss, Strigoi Ghoul King The House of Balefire, 50 Crypt Ghouls with Champion The Ravenous, 6 Crypt Horrors with Champion The Walking Dead of San Remy, 61 Zombies with Standard Bearer and Musician Rolling Bones, a Corpse Cart Wolkhar the Beast of Blutwald, a Terrorgheist The Calliope of Chaos, a Mortis Engine Zombies, Ghouls, and Horrors; oh, my! I am a fan of brightly colored armies.  My High Elf, Empire, Dark Elf, Chaos, Wood Elf, and Orcs and Goblins army are perfect examples of this.  The problem that I have with most Undead Armies that are painted is that they look so bleached, bland, and monochromatic.   Ghouls, Corpse Cart, and Terrorgheist! So I wanted to change that up, painting up my zombies and ghouls in bright greens, browns, reds, and blues.  I also used a lot

The Calliope of Chaos: The Mortis Engine

Here are the final shot of my newly completed Mortis Engine, the Calliope of Chaos The Calliope of Chaos This was a fun miniature to paint and assemble.  I decided to build the miniature into sub-assemblies, so that way it was easier to paint.  I assembled it into these sub sections: Left Spirit Host Right Spirit Host 3 Banshees The Carriage The Gate The Relic  Corpse Master I then painted all of the parts their various colors and then assembled together.   West Side!!! East Side!!! I was going for a smokey, whisky, shadow-like color scheme for this miniature, as if the darkness was manifesting this morbidly haunting thing to bring death and ruin.  I really like this effect and I am satisfied with the overall result. Back Shot of the Relic I was most impressed with the way the Corpse Master looks on the miniature, I painted it a bright Teal before oil washing it, and it looks fittingly haunting.   Over all, I love this model.  It was fun to assem

The Terrorgheist - Wolkhar, the Beast of Blutwald

Here are the final shots of my latest addition to my Undead Army, my Terrorgheist.  His name is Wolkhar the Beast of Blutwald (Blood Forest, in German).  I plan on using this miniature as a monster of my Undead Army.  For Warhammer Fantasy Battle I plan on using this miniature as a Terrorgheist.  For Age of Sigmar as a Mournghul.  And for other games as whatever monstrous creature that I want.  Wolkhar, the Beast of Blutwald in all his Gory Glory I put this miniature together from bits and pieces from an old Rakarth of Karond Kar miniature.  This was a Dark Elf Lord on Black Dragon miniature from the 4th Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle: This is what the dragon miniature originally looked like, so awesome! Unfortunately, the original owner lost about 1/2 of the model.  The rider, saddle throne, right wing, and neck of the miniature was missing.  As you can see from the following shot, I had to adjust and convert to solve this.  The original owner didn't appreciate t
